Unity Challenge and a Sassy Challenge

This 1st card is for last Thursday's Project of the Week for Unity Stamp Company.

The flower was made by stamping it onto a transparency sheet and then painting on it with Crystal Effects and reinkers. I dusted some glitter on it while it was wet and it is really sparkly in person, you should see it.

This challenge was hosted by AJ.

This picture makes it look like of dark and yucky, sorry about that.

If you'd like to check this challenge out for yourself you can find it here:
Unity Stamp Company Challenge at SCS

The quote stamp is one of the new releases, it is called "Blossom". The flower is from the Kit "Spring Has Sprung".The 2nd card is my weekly Sassy Challenge card. This week we were to make a simple one-layer card.
I chose to use the Papertrey Ink Garden of Life set for my card. The card is a 4x4 square.
(If you are going to the Williamsburg Shoebox Swap, you're making this card;))

It was nice to take a break and dig out from under these wedding invitations! I am in the process of cutting the cardstock for 100+ invites and it is giving me a sore shoulder!! I may need workers comp!

Thanks for stopping by!

Memorial Day

This is long but I hope you will read it.
My dad served in the military for 30+ years.

My brother-in-law is in the military still and served in Iraq for a year (a year is a long time for a newlywed and a newborn...).

This poem I read this morning touched me and says the words I want to say to my dad, brother and all our military.

For Our Troops © 2007 Brooke O'Neill Emery

FOR OUR TROOPS (both past and present, but particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan at present)

Though I don't know your name
And I have never seen your face
I shed tears for you.

Though my memories don't contain a time
We shared together
I miss you.

Though we are not related
You are in my thoughts.

When I'm eating, or taking a shower, or doing housework,
I think of you, knowing how much you wish you could be at home,
Your stomach full, doing mundane chores such as cleaning your house,
Clean from a fresh shower.

Though you are at terrible risk, and perhaps may not survive,
You are NEVER ALONE, and will always be alive
If only in our spirits, hopes and memories, our dreams for your future.

There are MILLIONS of people praying for you tonight
And throughout the day.

Praying for your safely and return as a whole person
In mind, body and spirit.

We are crying because we know. We know you are scared, and lonely.
And that you'd give anything to see your family, to hug you mother, father.
Your child, sister, brother, aunt, uncle.

To be showered with love and comfort,
Instead of sand and shrapnel.

We long for you too, with an ache so desperate as to make us insane.
To touch your face, see your smile; share your laughter and your tears.

We love you so much soldiers, you cannot know.
You cannot fathom the swelling of pride in our chest as we think of you.
Of your courage and your sacrifice, the hope that you can come home soon.

And those that have returned, we have not forgotten you; you are in our prayers,
That you may recover from your experience and be healed.

No matter what anyone says, no matter the reason you are there,
You are a UNITED STATES SOLDIER, and you make us PROUD!!
Every day for that beautiful flag, for our great fortune to be Americans.

There are no politics, no scandals, no mistakes, NOTHING, which can diminish the sentiment we have for you.
And even as democracy permits free speech, as it should, which some may use to make judgments or cast aspersions,
Remember always, we know you'd rather be on the couch debating it with us than spending your days trying just to stay alive.

Let no "freedom of speech' EVER make you doubt the American people's faith in and love for you.
We are PROUD!

I've never met you, but I want you to know that I love you.
I'm praying for you.
I honor you.

I'm waiting for your return.

On this Memorial Day, 2008, and every day,
Please know that you are being thought of.
GOD BLESS YOU and keep you until the day we can celebrate face to face.
As far as stamping goes, I have a lot of it to do!! I have to make 100+ wedding invitations and prepare for a Shoebox Swap this Saturday...uh oh.

1st Beach Day!!!

What did you do today?

(I have a "tattoe", it's not dirt, lol)

We went to the beach for the 1st time this year:) I was so excited! It was about 81 degrees and about 0% humidity, perfect for the beach! There were a lot of people there surprisingly, but we managed to find a seculed spot to put our stuff and let Tara run in the water.

Here are Tara's feet on the beach, too:
The best part was that I set my ipod to play all my Kenny Chesney songs, put the buds in my ears, blasted the volume so I couldn't hear a thing and closed my eyes and drifted to the islands....
I hope your weekend is as relaxing as mine is turning out to be.
Maybe i'll go and buy myself something to make it just perfect;)

Pretty Little Plaque & Birdie Update

I have been without internet service at home for a few days and OMG there is nothing worse, I swear, I don't know how I ever lived without dsl, LOL! AND I have like 200+ items on my Google Reader to catch up on...good thing it isnt busy at work today:)

I am so lost having not been blogging for a while that I almost don't know how to talk to you...

Last night I needed a very quick gift for my friend/nail tech. My appt. was at 6:30, I got home from work at 5:30, needed to make something quick for dinner and drive 20 minuntes away in that little bit of time...luckily she is always running behind so I really had until 7:00 *wink*. So I whipped up this little plaque for her to hang on her light at work to go with her birthday card I made a while ago.

Yes, I cheated and punched out the flowers instead of hand cutting them but it is the best I could do in 15 minutes, kwim? I think they match well enough.
(Sorry, Sherry, I just can't give you back this stamp set, ever......hehehehe)

And here is a little update on those cute Robin's in my holly bush.

There are only 2 left in the nest. I went out this morning to check on them and the other 2 flew out of the bush right at me, lolol!! Scared the "you know what" out of me but I was so excited to see they were finally flying. They couldn't all fit in that nest for much longer.

These 2 are holding out though....I tried to get a picture really quickly of the 2 that flew out of the nest but they were running and flying away from me so fast that I couldn't get a good picture...

Here is one of them all the way across the street in the neighbors yard looking back at me like I am a crazy lady!!

And I suppose I did look like one this morning in 4 inch heels running across the street with my camera in my hand yelling "come back here birdie, I need your picture..." I hope you have a great day, wherever you are, whatever you are doing!

Sassy Wednesday a Day Late

This Wednesday the challenge with my Sassy friends was to make a card with flowers on it. Since we started April with a "showers" card we ended it with a "flowers" card....April Showers Bring May Flowers...arent we cute?? LOL:)
For my card I used the new Papertrey Ink set Garden of Life. I love this set, these flowers are so pretty, love 'em!
I discovered something very handy about clear stamps while making this card. This bottom panel designer paper is the Prints Pack from SU! and the dots are really Blush Blossom, not Pink Passion. I needed Pink Passion polka-dotted paper so I used the little dot in this stamp set and stamped over the Blush Blossom dots! This is probably common practice among the stamping world but I just figured it out, lol.

And here is an updated picture of those cute baby Robin's living in my holly bush:)

Have a great day and be sure to check out my previous post to enter Unity Stamp Company's Giveaway of the Week!

Oh and Unity Stamp Company is the newest Member Company over at SCS...they should be up soon, keep checking! There are going to be some great surprises coming up there soon.... :)
